Postal workers have been keeping us connected through Covid-19.<\/em><\/strong> Yet right now the future of our postal services is in danger. <\/strong> <\/em><\/p>\n The European Commission is reviewing the EU postal regulations that will determine the future of post in Europe.<\/strong> In the past, this has resulted in liberalization and deregulation for<\/strong> one of the most reliable institutions in our societies <\/strong>which<\/strong> provides good jobs for hundreds-of-thousands of workers across the continent.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n Join UNI Europa Post & Logistics and CESI trade unions\u2019 in calling on<\/strong><\/em> the EU to save our post!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n There is a lot at stake as the Postal Services Directive goes under revision. It could result in increased liberalisation and more deregulation, leading to:<\/p>\n Why say no to more liberalisation and deregulation?<\/strong><\/p>\n It has already devastated postal services across Europe. The Postal Services Directive liberalised the postal market in Europe. It was supposed to bring about higher quality, greater efficiency, lower prices, and more and better jobs. But these benefits never materialized.<\/p>\n In reality, most companies have cut costs by downsizing or outsourcing the postal network leading to hundreds of thousands of job losses and poorer working conditions. Post offices have been closed and transferred into access points at petrol stations or supermarkets with limited services.<\/p>\n The public spends more time and travels farther to access postal services because there are fewer post offices and fewer letterboxes. Multiple parcel service providers deliver to the same streets on the same day, clogging up roads and polluting the environment.<\/p>\n Liberalisation has jeopardized the sustainable financing of the universal service obligation, and the very mission of postal services. Postal liberalisation has failed postal workers and European citizens.<\/p>\n We need a new game plan.
